Thirty-two patients recovering from breast reconstruction were randomized to pulsed electromagnetic field treatment or control. The treated group reported less pain, used fewer narcotics, and showed lower concentrations of the inflammatory signaling molecule interleukin-1 beta, giving a biological measure alongside the symptom report. The sample was small.
