    Deleted Biofeedback Codes and Their Current Replacements

    Several CPT codes still cited in biofeedback training materials, vendor handouts and forum posts were deleted between 2013 and 2020, and ICD-9-CM was replaced by ICD-10-CM for applicable services furnished on or after 1 October 2015. This page lists what was deleted, when, and what the published replacement is.

    Which biofeedback codes exist now?

    The descriptions below are paraphrased. The CPT code set is copyrighted by the American Medical Association, and the official descriptors appear in a current CPT manual. This section reports that these codes exist and what they describe. It is not guidance on which code to report, and code existence says nothing about coverage.

    Timing requirements should be confirmed against a current CPT manual before any timed code is reported. Medicare identifies CPT 90875 and 90876 as non-covered, which is covered on the Medicare coverage page.

    How often do these code sets change?

    CPT codes change annually, effective 1 January. NCCI edit files are updated quarterly, and the NCCI Policy Manual is republished each year. ICD-10-CM updates annually, effective 1 October.

    Any internal reference document, vendor handout or training deck without a stated review cycle goes stale. A document that still lists 90911 or the 96150 series was written before 2020.
